Nanyang Tech. Univ. Singapore

I had the privilege to work as a faculty member of  School of Materials Science and EngineeringNanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore from 7/1998 to 12/2003.  I was instrumental in setting up the Microelectronics ( Nanoelectronics) Laboratory in the school.

I was promoted to associate professor in 1/2002.

This school was ranked

No. 1 in the world in Year 20017 in Materials Sciencence and Engineering,

by the No. 1 university ranking company in the US: US News

Having founded a startup company (Tinggi)  in 2001 and secured private and VC investments worth over a few million US dollars in late 2003, I left the academia to focus on the new company in 2004.

Courses taught:

          Teaching and Presentations

Roughly 1/3 of my students after graduation went into semiconductor industry, especially the semiconductor wafer fabrication industry.

Research:

  • Optoelectronic materials processes and laser diode fabrication

We were pioneers in growing GaN and AlN compounds on Silicon substrates, which is now one of the upmost cutting edge technologies for the LED and third-generation semiconductor transistor devices .

Some research work done by my students is reported in the publications below:

  • “Structural and optical characteristics of GaN epilayers grown on Si (111) substrates using hydride vapor phase epitaxy”, Journal of Crystal Growth,282,137 – 142 (2005)
