Quantum Wafer Inc.

QW Inc. is a semiconductor wafer and chip design and manufacturer in China.

Overall investment in Quantum Wafer Inc. exceeded 30 million US dollars.

Seeing that LED market was taking off and LED epitaxial wafers were in short supply in China, I assembled a management and technical team to startup a new company.  At the same time, a local Chinese traditional manufacturing company invited my team to startup a new company with them.

I worked with the local company to establish the new company, and incorporated the company Quantum Wafer Inc. in Sept. 2010.

I was the CEO for the next 5+ years until we were ready to hand over the operation to the local company.

So far, total investment in the company exceeded 30 million US dollars, including about 25 millions on infrastructure (clean-rooms and facilities) and equipments.

By June 2011, we already achieved a few major milestones:

• hired first batch of engineers and administrative staff
• converted an old shoe factory into a new clean-room for LED wafer manufacturing
• bought equipment and installed and tested the equipment

By September 2011, technology development and training of production workers were in full gear.

We were awarded a large grant (worth 10 million Chinese Yuans or roughly 1.6 million US dollars ) to develop wafer and device technologies by the Guangdong Provincial government.

We were among the early technology developing companies in China for high-voltage LED epitaxial wafers and chips and ultraviolet (UV) LED wafers and chips.  For our outstanding work, the Guangdong provincial venture capital investment company decided to invest 40 million Chinese RMB （about 6.4 million US dollars)  into Quantum Wafer Inc.

 

Today Quantum Wafer Inc. makes blue/ultraviolet (UV) LED wafers and chips, and is managed by the local holding company.
